Aslı Çarkoğlu, PhD

Aslı Çarkoğlu, Ph.D received her bachelor's degree (B.A) in Psychology from Bogaziçi University, Istanbul, her master's (M.S.) and doctoral degrees in Family Studies from Purdue University. In her last year of doctoral studies, she coordinated the ethnographic component of a study on college students’ smoking habits. Upon receiving her degree, she was a post-doctoral fellow in medical anthropology at the University of Arizona with funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Since returning to Turkey, she has worked on various tobacco control projects collaborating with the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health and Institute for Global Tobacco Control (IGTC). She is currently a faculty member at Kadir Has University, Department of Psychology, Istanbul. Dr. Carkoglu is the country PI for Quit Tobacco Turkey. Her current research interests include smoking cessation, second hand exposure to tobacco smoke, and well-being and couple relationships.

Şeyda Özcan, PhD

Seyda Ozcan, PhD is an associate professor in medical nursing at Koc University, College of Nursing in Istanbul. Dr. Ozcan specializes in diabetes nursing and has been been working in the area since 1991. She has lectured and trained nurses extensively at various Turkish, U.S. and European universities and has published extensively on a range of topics. She has served in the boards of Diabetes Nursing Association, Foundation of European Nurses in Diabetes and International Diabetes Federation. Dr. Ozcan is a member of the QTI Turkey team and is currently working on the development of the diabetes and tobacco modules for the upcoming nurse training workshops.


Nuran Aydın, PhD

Dr.Aydın graduated from Hacettepe School of Nursing in 1992. She worked as the clinic and head nurse at Hacettepe İhsan Doğramacı Pediatrics Hospital for 10 years. In the mean time, she completed her Master’s at Hacettepe University School of Nursing in Pediatric Nursing and her PhD at Marmara University School of Nursing in Pediatric Nursing. Dr. Aydın later worked as a faculty member at Koç University School of Nursing for 13 years. She is a faculty member at Medipol University Department of Nursing since 2013. Her areas of interest are child intensive care, children with chronic respiratory problems and their families as well as nursing informatics. She is a board member in the Health ınformatics Association and is also the first nurse in Turkey to receive an “informatics friendly nurse” award.

Ayşecan Terzioğlu, PhD

Aysecan Terzioglu, Ph.D is a medical anthropologist and Assistant Professor in the Koc University, School of Nursing, Istanbul. Dr. Terzioglu has conducted ethnographic research on cancer patients in Turkey and has carried out extensive research in medical settings. In QTI Turkey, Dr. Terzioglu is conducting qualitative interviews with smokers to better understand the meaning of smoking in the Turkish context, barriers to quitting, and the experience of nurses in helping patients quit.
